MacBook Air Called “Sexiest Laptop Ever”

"The MacBook Air is the sexiest laptop ever. …it’s like nothing you’ve ever laid your
hands on. And yes, you have to lay your hands on it to get the full
effect."  So begins the love letter from National Geographic’s Steve Casimiro to the MacBook Air

He goes on to say that it is a powerful computer that could easily replace your current
laptop.
To back that up, he claims that the $1,800 1.6 GHz version kept pace with his year-old MacBook
Pro
, even though it has less RAM and processing speed.

In his article, he analyzes the Air with regard to many factors, including its size, computing power, lack of dvd drive, and battery. He  concludes that the "speed, diminutive
size, and special Apple sauce make it a compelling, almost irresistible
ultra-portable."

As long as I have my 3 gigs of ram I’m okay.

I use a MacBook Air for my portable needs, and it’s an excellent machine. I especially like the oohs and aahs provoked by its appearance. Everyone wants to come over and touch it.
It only has 2GB of RAM and that figure is fixed — soldered on the motherboard. I haven’t even heard of any hacky aftermarket upgrades. So Steve’s need for 3GB of RAM, above, will not be met by the MacBook Air.
Its battery life is not spectacular by any stretch of the imagination. If you watch any video on it you’re looking at two (2) hours tops. In general office-applications use, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi switched off (but who wants to go without Internet?) you can get close to three (3) hours — maybe 2:48 or so. The battery is not removable, so once it’s dead, you’re done.
However, I tend to work places where there is an electrical outlet available. Rarely would I need to use this laptop on a mountaintop or in the trunk of a car or anything like that. So for me, in my experience, the battery life is not a material issue.
    The screen is excellent.
The keyboard is excellent — the best ever, in fact.
And, as we know, Mac OS X and the applications available for this platform are demonstrably superior.
The processor speed is good enough, the hard disk large and fast enough. All things considered — especially the envious looks — the MacBook Air has been a great purchase.
