Two Lawyers' Views of iPhone vs. Blackberry

Most attorneys are closely tied to their cell phones of choice, and everyone has his own opinion of which type of phone is the "best."  Two lawyers that I know (and highly respect), Jeff Richardson and Lee Rosen, recently weighed in with articles published in the January 2009 Law Practice Today webzine with their thoughts of how the iPhone compares with the Blackberry.  You can read their articles at the links below, and I invite your comments with your own thoughts as to which phone is superior.

Rosen's principal complaints about his iPhone relate to voice dialing and the quality of AT&T service. Ever since the last firmware update I have had no dropped call problems. As to voice dialing I don't use it often but I use a free application called Say Who Lite and I find it acceptable.

Applications are the key to iPhones. I use it to track expenses, find products (the Amazon application is incredible), check nearby movie theaters, and as a GPS. I can even allow my office to track me if I want.

Some additional observations: the 3G blows the Edge network away in Chicago. I switched to 3G before Christmas and the service improvement is overwhelming. As an additional observation, RichardSolo.com sells a battery charger/backup (the 1800 model) for the iPhone that really works well in a pinch to charge the phone. For example, I was at a seminar on Saturday and the phone was dying, so I popped the battery on and it charged within 30 minutes.

I agonized for two months over which phone to get. Day after day of research. Finally, I got an iPhone and I have never been happier. I cannot overstate how cool/awesome/productive this platform is. If anyone reading this is torn between the two, get the iPhone

I am leaning towards an iPhone, but am curious about whether there is an issue about blackberry encryption v iPhone? Does iPhone have same or similar protection of client communications? Thanks
