The “Pitfalls” of Switching from a PC to a Mac

Posted in Mac vs. PC

Two weeks ago, I mentioned that I was featured in a Lawyers USA article which discussed "Should you switch to a Mac?"  Part Two of that article has now been published, and you can read it here.  This portion discusses the "pitfalls" of making the move to Macs.

I placed that word in quotation marks, because these "pitfalls" are relatively minor and can easily be accommodated.  The main pitfall mentioned is that "a lot of software is Windows-only."  However, as has been discussed many times on this blog, virtualization software (among other options) allows you to easily run any Windows software on your Mac.

I agree. “Pitfalls” in switching from PC to Mac are only pitfalls if one lets them be. In my work, I find that creative thinking is all that is really needed to come up with a Mac friendly solution to any software platform issue. I have always found Mac counterparts to any traditional PC software.

After 30 years in the Wintel world, frustrated with the constant crashes and hangups endemic to PCs, I switched from a PC to the iMac a few months ago. The only pitfall is for the antacid manufacturers, who have permanently lost a customer, and the virus writers, who lost a victim. Download the free open-source suite at OpenOffice.org and seamlessly emulate all Office functions and open all PC-created docs. No more Word crashes and idiotic, useless, meaningless error messages!! Hallelujah!!
